SafetyNet Project – Hygiene Kits for the Homeless

Scouts: Entire Troop

The entire troop is working together on the SafetyNet project to support people experiencing homelessness in our community.

The 1st Glen Abbey Scout Troop has partnered with SafetyNet Children & Youth Charities to assemble hygiene kits for people experiencing homelessness in Oakville and the surrounding region.

The project kicked off with a structured Planning Night — each patrol worked together to design their hygiene kit contents, identify local donation sources, and write a script for asking the community for support. Patrols presented their plans at the end of the evening, pitching their top items, donation ideas, and donation scripts.

Scouts are responsible for collecting donations, organizing and sorting supplies, and assembling complete hygiene kits packed with essentials: toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, razors, breath strips, and personal care items — each kit hand-labelled with a personal message like "Wishing you well!" and "You are worthy of love."

This project embodies the Scout motto — Be Prepared — by preparing others for a dignified day. It gives our youth a hands-on understanding of community need and the power of collective action.

The kits are distributed through SafetyNet's established network, ensuring they reach those who need them most. This is an ongoing troop commitment that runs throughout the year.
